The Emir of Argungu, Nigeria, Alhaji Samaila Mera, has called for caution on the attacks on Islamic Movement in Nigeria and also Shiites people in the country by citizens and security forces.
He also admonished religious leaders to preach peace and religious harmony.

Speaking to journalists in Sokoto, Mera said attacks by citizens on one another and jungle justice may lead to anarchy, stressing that the rule of law should be allowed to take its course.

The traditional ruler described the attacks on the Shiites as an attempt to break the ranks of Muslims.

He said, “I think we need to be careful; if you look around the world, the problem between Sunni and Shiites is terrible for Islam and Muslims. I hope our religious leaders would step in so that we don’t drift into unwarranted violence and killings.

“You find adherents of Sunni and Shiites everywhere, their differences was not pronounced as it is today in Nigeria, in the last five years, at least.”

Going down memory lane, the emir emphasized that Allah foretold that Islam would be divided, noting that he never authorised unlawful killings.

“The gory pictures of Muslims taking arms against fellow Muslims; Muslims are not expected to pick arms against Christians or even atheist, how much more, fellow Muslims,” he noted.

“What we believe is that anybody who believes and follows the tenets of Islam is a Muslim. How someone chooses to worship is between the person and His God. For goodness sake, we all believe in the same prophet and we will all be accountable to God in all we did on earth, “he added.
