Iran always stands by Iraqi nation: Larijani

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Wednesday that insecurity in Iraq destabilizes the entire region and the Islamic Republic of Iran spares no efforts to help restore peace and security in Iraq.

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with first Deputy Speaker of Iraqi Parliament Hojjatoleslam Homam Baqer al-Hamoudi.

Larijani said that Tehran and Baghdad have amicable relations and that the two sides should spare no efforts to help resolve current problems in Iraq.

He expressed the hope that the Iraqi nation would take the final step in fight against terrorists successfully.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stood by the Iraqi nation shoulder to shoulder and Iranian government spares no efforts to this end, Larijani said.

Iran's policy is based on supporting Iraqi territorial integrity and national sovereignty and help bolster unity and solidarity among all Iraqi political parties such as Shia and Sunni Muslims and the Kurdish people of Iraq and there is no doubt that national reconciliation would help resolve the country's problem, he said.

Triggering religious discords should be regarded as the biggest threat to security and stability of the Muslim World, he said.

The role of national coalition in trust building and unifying nation is of prime importance, Larijani said.

Larijani called for expansion of economic, financial and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

The visiting Iraqi envoy for his part thanked Iranian assistance to the Iraqi nation and government, saying that the Iraqi government made determination to restore stability and security in Iraq in the near future.

Terrorism is the biggest challenge to the Iraqi nation and the country's officials are determined to overcome menaces of terrorism, he said.

Religious leaders have always played a very significant role to salvage Iraq, he said.

Today, extremism and terrorism are regarded as a big mishap in the region which can be thwarted through collective contribution of all countries, he said.

The Iraqi envoy thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for the support and the wise stand adopted by the Iranian Supreme Leader about Iraq.
