Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday Islamic principles should serve as the basis for an Islamic-Iranian model of progress.
Ayatollah Khamenei, addressing a group of scholars, elite and university professors, said the prerequisite for formulating an Islamic-Iranian model of progress is courage, strong motive and use of young talents.
The Leader said designing an Islamic-Iranian model of progress is a very a great, long-term and deep-rooted task, adding to fulfill this goal, one should influence the elite, and have dialogue with all the social strata.
Ayatollah Khamenei said an Islamic-Iranian model of progress is in fact a product of the Islamic Revolution, calling for a new and progressive civilization in all spheres based on Islamic thought and ideology.
The Leader said fulfilling this task is a long-term process which needs profound outlook. "Unfortunately, the world now is influenced by the western civilization which has dominated all aspects of human life.
"Thought and ideology is the main spirit of such a movement. In such a long-term process, any shortcoming or likely problem can be removed. In this process, one should avoid hasty actions, use new experiences and young talents so that the driving force can never be stopped."
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the presence of young and highly motivated scientists in the advanced scientific centers of the country such as the nano- and nuclear technology as well as the defense industry. "
"The youth should be trusted because the youths have everlasting motives and dynamism."
The Leader also said signs of decadence are clearly evident in the fabric of the Western civilization.
The Western civilization and various stages of its establishment, climax and finally the emergence of signs of decay at the present juncture, provide an objective example for the study of flaws and shortcomings of a civilization, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
“The Western civilization has its roots in humanism with a view to political power and then a capital-based perspective, and after its heyday, the signs of decay and decadence have currently come to the surface,” the Leader added.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that sexual decadence and prevalence of moral and sexual depravity are the most important signs of the collapse of the Western civilization.
The Leader also mentioned high frequency of destructive wars in Europe over the past centuries as a major problem with the Western civilization.
“The emergence of so many problems and decadence in the Western civilization is due to the absence of spirituality in the Western society,” the Leader pointed out.
Among other basic problems of the western civilization is the high number of devastating wars in Europe over the past few centuries, said Ayatollah Khamenei, adding problems and shortcomings in the western civilization are due to lack of spirituality.
